There were already trick-or-treaters out at 4 pm when I picked up Zack from preschool. The whole neighborhood was into it. You didn't go knock on doors---people sat on their stoops or on lawn chairs by their gates with huge bowls of candy and chatted with all the groups passing by. Several people offered Zack candy even though we weren't actually trick-or-treating yet, and he ate 3 m&ms on the way home. Those, together with a kitkat bar have been the extent of his Halloween sugar intake, and he seems to be totally over it. But those first few m&ms were a pretty big deal to him.
Jack-o-lantern
We went back out with Dad, and did a lot more trick-or-treating. I threw away the tootsie rolls and dumdums, and the chocolate candy bars are away in a cabinet in case he remembers about them.
These people wanted a trick. Luckily, Zack has a trick.
