"Eat egg"

"Sit Dad-dad's chair. Eat egg." He also wanted to "sit Mom-mom's lap," so he went back and forth three times during breakfast. He has a low fever and is not feeling 100%.

We weathered the hurricane fine, still have power. And despite very impressive winds, 80+ mi/hr, nothing blew off our deck except all the leaves from my basil plant. The parsley is a bit broken, but the thyme is okay :) Looks like it was pretty bad in Manhattan and south of us in Brooklyn, and on Staten Island and especially New Jersey. Much of the subway system will be closed for maybe a week and train and traffic tunnels across the Hudson and East River flooded. A substation in Manhattan blew up and power to lower Manhattan is not expected to be restored for several days. We will be affected to the extent that Alex will have to bike to work, and stores and restaurants in our neighborhood might find it difficult to get employees and stock. We'll go out for a walk in a little while and see what's up on the street.

Hurricane update

Worst of the storm is past us now, and we still have power. Wind is howling, but not quite as loudly as it was an hour or so ago. Probably 80 mi/hr gusts at the height of it. There will definitely be quite a mess down there on the streets, and the NYT is reporting some pretty major flooding. But I think high tide is past now too.

Hurricane

We've got some wind here, but otherwise it's not very exciting. We are prepared for a power outage, but our power lines are underground so can't be downed by trees. And we are above the trees and so aren't worried about branches into our windows. No school today or tomorrow. Zack is happy playing here.

Playing with Jack and all Jack's toys

The hurricane hadn't arrived yet this morning, and Alex and everyone else in the neighborhood had the day off, so we went visiting.

Zack loved this toy:
