Feelings

Today Zack is noticing and expressing feelings. This morning he had a little fall, not a bad one at all, but it made him mad---he made an angry scream, stopped and thought about it, and then made some more angry screams. He practiced being angry and expressing it with angry screams for about 10 minutes before we could distract him enough to make him stop. Then when he woke up from a nice long nap, he was so happy and he laughed---and he noticed he was happy and noticed that laughing was a good way to express it, and so he spent the next 45 minutes playing with his toys and making little laughs, that started to sound a little like coughs---but he was still so happy---he was practicing being happy. By the time these photos were taken he was pretty worn out from all those feelings---he's finally chill now. I have a suspicion that this new consciousness of emotion is going to make it harder to redirect him when he's sad or mad. But we'll see how things develop. Today has obviously been a learning day as far as self-awareness and what he'll do with what he has learned is anyone's guess.
